Client FAQ's
Designing a web site for a client isn't a cut and dried task. If it
were that simple then pages like this wouldn't be needed to address
your concerns. When designing for a client knowing what that client
expects and wants is the first step towards building a web site you
will be happy with. Please read the following and if you have any
questions please contact Gilded Lily
Designs directly.
I don't know what I want?
Well, explaining is not all left up to the client. I will consult
with you to find out what you are looking to have in a web presence.
Finding out about your company or what you are interested in having
on the page. What is your goal for having a web site? Are you
selling a product? Do you just want to inform the public? To obtain
this information I spend time with my clients asking questions
and finding out what is your target and what do you want a web
site to do for you.
What will this cost?
Quoting an estimate for a web site isn't a black and white issue.
There are many different elements which influence the final outcome.
After working with the client to find out what is needed, and
discussing options with the clients, an educated estimate can
be reached. This estimate will then be provided to the client
for approval. Keep in mind that this is only an estimate. Although
Gilded Lily does try to work within the estimated range, sometimes
the cost may vary a little. If the client decides during the building
process to add something that will also effect the final cost.
A few questions you will want to think about are:
Who do you want to target with
your new web site? Is your web site going to
be used to sell products? Is it an informative web site?
Besides design and layout of your
new web site are there any other services you will need? Hosting
Services, Domain Registration, Shopping Cart? Gilded Lily Designs
can offer all of these services, but you the client needs to
think about what it is that you are going to need.
Do you presently have existing
promotional material which you want to incorporate into your
web site? i.e.: Brochures, logos, etc.
Do you need copywriting?
Gilded Lily does prefer the client to do their own copywriting
for their site, because who else but you will know your business
or interests better than YOU? Although if you do need some help,
GLDA will be happy to help.
Do you already have a web site
but just need updating? If you already have the
content and/or just need redesigning and updating of the web
site then we can work to find out what you want with your new
look.
Who will maintain the site once
completed? Some clients prefer to maintain their
site or have someone within the organization handle it. This
is fine, but whoever does it should have some knowledge of HTML
and a good editor to maintain the site. If you would rather
have GLDA maintain the site, this option is available charged
at her hourly rate.
Who is the decision maker concerning
this web site? GLDA prefers to deal with the
person who will have the final say-so concerning the site. This
saves time when submitting the site for approval, or details
which require approval. If approval is given by someone who
really doesn't have final say-so and changes need to be made,
this will incur extra expenses for the client.
Gilded Lily has worked with all levels of experienced clients,
but we need to know where you stand. If you are not very knowledgeable
in this area, this is fine, but realize that it will require GLDA
to spend more time on explaining the technical aspects. It will
be of help to me to know your level of understanding so I can
figure extra consultation time into my estimate.
